What is Yukon Nominee Program?

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is an immigration program that is specially designed for the Canadian territory of Yukon.

The YNP in Canada allows the territory to select immigrants who have the skills and experience needed to fill labor shortages in the territory. See Yukon Jobs For Foreigners.

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) has been in operation since 2002. Yukon uses the YNP to attract more immigrants to the province to address the territory’s labour market needs.

The YNP targets skilled workers and businesspersons who have the work experience and required education to succeed in the Yukon territory.

Yukon has one enhanced stream called Yukon Express Entry. The remaining categories are base categories.

This means that the Yukon Express Entry is aligned with Canada’s Express Entry system. A base category, on the other hand, is one that is not aligned with the Express Entry system.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada’s immigration department, uses the Express Entry system to manage the main economic class immigration programs.

Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)

The Yukon, a territory in northwest Canada, is bordered by British Columbia, the Northwest Territories and Alaska. It is wild, mountainous, and sparsely populated.

The economy of Yukon is driven by its natural resources and has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Canada. 

Prospective immigrants with the skills and experience targeted by the territory may receive a Yukon Provincial Nomination Certificate, after which they can apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements for Employers

Employers must meet the following requirements as an employer:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Be registered and operating a business in Yukon for at least one year or must be a recognized government body in Yukon.
  • Meet minimum territorial labour standards.
  • Provide a copy of the business license and be registered in Yukon’s corporate registry.
  • Provide to nominees, free of charge, health insurance that gives similar coverage to what a Yukon resident would receive until the nominee is eligible for government health benefits.
  • Offer a job with a wage equal to or exceeding prevailing median wage in the occupation in Yukon.
  • Pay the nominee’s cost of travel to Yukon from his or her country of residence abroad, if not already in Yukon. Employers are not required to pay the travel costs of the nominee’s family or dependents.
  • Pay for return travel costs if the nominee does not obtain permanent residency.
  • Arrange for a screening interview with a Yukon Government Immigration officer if the foreign national is already in Yukon. Both the foreign national and employer must be present for the interview
  • Verify previous work experience and qualifications of foreign worker before applying.
  • Submit the offer of employment information and pay the compliance fee of $230 CAD (if applicable).
  • Advertise the job opening for at least four weeks prior to applying to the YNP. The advertisement must remain posted to actively seek qualified Canadians and permanent residents until the date that the YNP issues a decision.

Application for the Yukon Nominee Program requires that individuals who wish to apply must have the basic eligibility criteria. Those criteria include the following:

  • Possess education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job as per the criteria specified in the National Occupational Classification (NOC);

NOTE: The minimum acceptable level of education is a high school diploma.

  • have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory

YNP Application Requirements

All interested applicants have to provide the following details during entry:

  • Provide nationality identifications or valid passport for 6 month 
  • Provide a clear educational background of main applicant  and all applicable members
  • submit Canadian passport photo size of main applicant and all applicable members
  • Photo must meet these specifications: They must be 50 mm wide by 70 mm high (2 inches wide by 2¾ inches high). The height of face must measure between 31 mm (1¼ inches) and 36 mm (1⁷⁄₁₆ inches) from  chin to the crown of your head (natural top of head).
  • Submit a highest educational level attained by main  applicant and all applicable members
  • Provide track record on previous employments of main applicant  and all applicable members
  • Fill and submit review on both English and fresh level of fluency.  According to NOC 2016 code on your nomination certification,  YNP Program  offer a period of stay of 2years and after all applicants  will  have to pass  the CELPIP-General test and TEF test  with 61 points on assessment grid before being offered a permanent residential.
  • YNP accept applicants with a family of no more than 4 children.
  • The processing time for YNP applications is 12-14 weeks from receipt of a complete application.
  • If you’re nominated, the province or territory will send a nomination certificate to your email account alongside a support letter with a signature from the Yukon Government that states that the employers who have offered you employment require you to work in Yukon.

Yukon Nominee Processing Time

Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) processing time depends on the stream and the individual’s application. Notwithstanding, comparing to the federal skilled worker program,

The time frame for processing of the Yukon Nominee Program is considerably shorter. Among other factors that can affect the YNP application processing time as shown below:

  • the completeness of the application
  • the number of applications received, and
  • the individual’s specific circumstances.

However, the processing time can vary depending on the individual’s circumstances and the stream they applied for. Typically, the processing time for the Skilled Worker stream and the Business stream is around 6-8 months.

However, the YNP processing time for the Critical Impact Worker stream and the International Graduate stream is shorter, around 4-6 months.

For the Express Entry stream, the processing time is shorter than the federal Express Entry program and it’s usually around 3-4 months.

  • Nomination Letter copy offered by the Yukon Government that confirms your nomination for Permanent Residence.
  • Support letter with a signature from the Yukon Government that states that:
